Did it take the paint off?

I would not think it would pull the paint, but either way, if your not going to use it as the anode/cathode for your process, what is the point of removing the paint that would only serve to keep stray currents from going to the barrell which could form a ground, and keep the cruddy crap that ends up in there from corroding the barrel. Jut my thoughts.

Several things I've read have said that electrolysis will remove paint, but in this case, it did not. Perhaps the type of paint (acrylic) has something to do with it? Or how thick it is? I don't know. Learning as I go. Looks like I'm going to have to strip it by hand.

One of the guys in an Army Truck forum (Steelsoldiers.com)that I subscribe to, came up with a great way to remove rust. He immersed his parts in Apple Cider Vinegar for 2 days. They came out clean and perfect.... ready for sealant. Try it on a couple of rusty nuts and bolts, and then report back. I was impressed, your turn!
