  • Some pics of my Xsellent XS

Hi all. It's been a while since I posted. Here is a link to some photos of my 79 XS1100S Velvet Hammer. She's in rat ride mode right now. Eventually I would like to paint her but first things first. Thanks to one of the members here I got some sweet Progressive shocks on the back that really helped the handling out. She also has progressives in the forks and they are set up according to the Joe Minton article. She has a set of 80 carbs with a Dynojet Jet kit installed and K&N pods. I have a Mac 4-1 header but didn't like how the fart can baffle sounded so my Dad and I circumcised a 2" thrush glass pack and it fit perfect and now I have mechanical opera. Looking forward to the spring southeast meet when the date gets ironed out. I live right in the middle of some of the best roads in western NC. Anyway, I hope to be posting more updates of progress this year and I love the site, it's on of the best on the Web. Sincerely, Mike http://picasaweb.google.com/HybridMi...eat=directlink

      I like the cafe look

Thanks, I have always loved the cafe look. This is my first XS and I love the thing. It reminds me a little of my old Kawasaki KZ650's only on steroids. I had to do all kinds of performance work on those things and they still wouldn't pull a wet string out of a cats a$$. This things engine on the other hand is stock and its a blast. Can't wait to uncork it a little and see what happenz.

That glass pack inside there is an interesting idea. Would it be possible to get a video of it to hear what it sounds like?

                    My XS

Figman I would love to when it warms up. Nice stable by the way. Katana 600 and FZR600? Cool!

It would be possible to get a video but I don't know if my little 12mp Fujifilm camera would do it justice. It has a video function but I'm not sure about the mic. Anyway I will give it a go. I suppose I can upload it to YewBoob? Thanks for the interest guys it is inspiring. I can say that to my ear it sounds much more muscular than the MAC mechanical baffle (tinny) but it's not obnoxiously loud. I had a FZ750 once that I put a Kerker 4-2-1 pipe on. I made the mistake of installing the 2.5", I think it was, baffle core and it was so loud that on the highway I hated it and removed it. Ahh youth, young and dumb and full of cum.

I just got rid of the rockets and picked up 2 atvs. The girlfriend would rather ride on the back and they were a little too uncomfortable for me. I will stick with the XS and the GS 1100 for now. Give me a holler when the weather cooperates a little more.

Looking forward to a video of that exhaust in action. Maybe a good way to refurb my kerker, since the baffle is almost completely rusted away.

                          Thrush/Kerker baffle

It's funny you should mention that because I have had a few KZ650's in the past that had Kerker pipes and that is was gave me the idea. The Kerker baffle is basically a reverse megaphone installed so it's flush with the end of the headers megaphone. My red pickle idea attempts to duplicate that for cheap. To my ears the sound is way better than the MAC mechanical baffle. I will try to get a sound byte this weekend.
