The eng. is out....the cases are split, and my gears are changed out. OOOOraaaaaa!!!! Now its time to put it all back together, my question is: can Yamabond 5 be used instead if 4?

Well, they're not quite the same. Y4 is semi-drying and Y5 is drying. Might be tough to re-open the cases after Y5, but I've never used Y5 so its a guess.Former owner, but I have NO PARTS LEFT!

You DO want the #4. The "semi-drying" will expand and contract with the aluminum, and not leak. The #5 hardening will NOT expand and contract, and WILL leak.Ray Matteis

Yamabond #4 is the same a Sudco threebond and Honda semidrying gasket sealer (aka Hondabond) but there are no subtitutes for Yamabond 5...
These are 2 very different sealers and should not be interchanged. I find them both indispensable for what they do...

Three bond's 1104 liquid gasket is very close to Yamabond #4 and is easier to find. If your doing engine cases do them right with one of these 2 products. Apply this stuff exactly as instructed in the manual. Pay close attention to the areas around the O-ring for the oil pomp and around the crank bearings.

Three Bond's 1104 has been discontinued because it has lead in it. It has been replaced with 1194 which the same product, just a lot safer. So 1194 is a direct replacement to 1104.

I've used the 1194 for the clutch cover with no leaks in well over a year now. Had to take it apart and put it back together several times as well in the first week or so and had no trouble with that.Cy
