The four into one pipes on my 79 XS11S are too noisy.
Any suggestions for a set of pipes, 4 into 1 that does not interfere with the filter removal, relatively quiet in matt black.
New or in new like condition.

    Thank you, Uncle crusty.

Take your pipes now, put a new muff on it, have it ceramic coated.

Thats the easiest solution, theres not a lot to choose from to begin with so if you have a good set hang on them. The Jardine 4-1 doesnt interfere with the oil filter bowl but they do have a low ground clearance on the right just under the foot peg... What 4-1 do you have now?

If you're looking for a new 4-1, your choice is the MAC, as everything else is discontinued/out of business. Here's one here:
        http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamah...item255efca2b4
The downside is the MAC has terrible chrome and will quickly discolor.

If it's quiet you want, probably the best choice would be a OEM 4-2 system if you can find one, but 'like new' condition will probably cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $600 and up; recently sold excellent used/NOS stock exhausts have gone for over $1K.

Unless you're prepared to shell out a bunch of money, Nate's advice is good...

In the new muffler department, any suggestions. I know a photo of my current pipes would help, will try later.

Do you have Marshall Deeptone 4 into 1 exhausts over there in the USA? My bike had one on but it was rusty and tatty looking. But, they are pretty quiet... not at all raucous.

Everyone I have ever heard try to buy the Marshal system over here, eventually cancelled the order after months and months and months of waiting.

If your pipes and all are in good condition but your just looking to quiet them down, you could consider adding a supertrap to it. They make alot of different components you can add in or replace your baffles with.

I have never heard anything good about the marshall deeptone. Everyone says they are even worse than MAC.

                        Muffler

Thanks for the input so far.
When I get some time I will explore the suggested options.
My pipes and muffler are in okay condition, just too noisy.
The baffle is easy enough to remove, and or a new muffler is easy enough to attach if it is the right shape. Obviously photos are required so I will work on that.

Well, I can't speak to the Marshall other than their reported non-availability in the US contrary to their distributors claims, but the MAC is rather cheaply made, isn't particularly 'tuned' for performance, doesn't 'fit' all that well (the standard and special should have slightly different fitments IMO), and has terrible chrome plating on the pipes; they rust/discolor fast....

Re-wrapped the baffle on the 4-1MAC on my SF, which really quieted it down.
