[QUOTE=James England;305842] I can't remember the name of the Australian place or I would have mentioned it... can you remember it? Yes, the badge quality is brilliant and much better than the OEM. Apparently all his badges are die-cast metal including side panel badges etc. I think mine cost about £25 including postage.

    James,
The place you were trying to remember is: www.reproductiondecals.com. I actually bought mine from one of his distributors in Canada to save on shipping/mailing charges. I got the "Maxim" side badges that are made from metal and are gold plated. Super nice emblems, pricey, but well worth it. Keep the pics of the bike coming.

The shifter is the standard UK issue on all XS1100's. I notice that in the US, you just have a straight gear lever. It's 1 down, neutral, and 4 up (same as in the US).

Apart from imports of US bikes, they are all like that here. I don't quite know why though!

Thank you, kind sir! The tyre got like that pushing the bike across the snow and mud to get it into the garage. The whole job is RUINED because of it, LOL.

            hi james,
            the bike looks amazing,
nothing wrong with spending a quid on
            something thats gonna last.

the footpegs on the european/australasian bikes
are set further back than the us models, thats the
reason for the difference in the gear levers between models.

Thanks for your praise. It's nice to hear from other XSives that the bike looks good. I know it's not to everyone's taste to put a bike back to standard but that was what I wanted to do on this one. Looking at other pix on the forum, there are loads of equally great bikes out there and it shows just how versatile a model they are, I reckon.

Re the footpegs.... that's why the rear brake levers are different lengths in the US then?. I replaced mine and searched all over for one but found the US ones were a different length. Now I know why

Once I get the front wheel back on (I'm waiting for a tube), I'll take some outdoor pix in natural light... like an 'official' portrait.

Having done all the work on it etc, I do intend actually to use the bike!

Absolutely! I can't help feeling a bit sad to see motorbikes sitting in museums and displays and things. An old feller I know restored an MG TA car and it was absolutely superb. So, after years of using it, he promptly stopped using it at all in case it got scratched and then eventually, decided to sell it as "I never use it". I really wouldn't want to get like that with any bike. Obviously, I'll not be dirt-tracking and quarry climbing with it but I can;t wait for the snow and ice to go (more on the way....) so I can get out on it. Next spring, I reckon.

I'm looking for another XS1100 as another project to get me through the winter.........

The tyres for the XS1100 are, in fact, normal tubeless tyres (mine is an Avon Roadrider) and most bikes here these days run tubeless. But..... the XS1100 bikes sold here didn't have wheels with rims that take tubeless tyres. So, we just fit tubeless tyres like anyone else, but have to put tubes into them. It's absolutely essential on the XS1100's here. I believe you in the US had tubeless rims on your XS1100 wheels and therefore don't need to put tubes in.......... My front wheel had the original, 30 year old inner tube in it! Frightening thought.
