You can't beat the Carb tune sync gauge . It's well woth the money . Do a search for sync gauges too, there are a few here that made their own.

Look around on ebay, there are sets of gauges on there for about 40 that work pretty well.

Those gauges look exactly like the ones I got from ebay. The shop I got them from I think specializes in stuff for wings.

Two years ago the JCW gauges were less than $100.

              Now? Over $100 New. (??!!@X!!)

Heck anywhere near 100 I would just go with the carbtune, and that is what I got, and I love it.

You can't get NEW tools with mercury in them anymore. Environmental/health concerns have done away with the use of mercury. I agree with the carbtune thing though. Very nice tool, very compact and portable (get the case to go with it) and no worry about spilling fluid or calibrating gauges. Definitely worth the few extra $.

I'm pretty sure that's incorrect, as there are mercury units for sale on ebay from U.S. vendors. The same vendor that I got my gauge set from had a mercury set as well, but I was concerned about sucking it up into the intake, and it's easier to take the gauge set with me. I know that the uses of it have been limited, but there are still some things it's just about the only thing that works nearly as well. Nothing commercially available is more accurate for syncing, but other stuff comes close enough to not matter. It's also still used in cheap central heat and air thermostats, and in the quiet electric switches. I believe most uses of it now require that it be in a sealed environment.

Oh, it's used in lights as well, as I don't think they have found anything to replace it with yet.

I may be mistaken then. I just know that when I went looking, I could not find ANY. In fact, I believe the USPS has major restricions for shipping it in any form (it's a HAZMAT item). All liquid manometers that I was able to find are now filled with "manometer fluid" instead of mercury.

Well, this one claims to be mercury and says it comes with the mercury. I will admit, when I bought mine a year and a half ago there were more of them. This one is pretty pricey too, so I'll stick with my gauge set.

PS, the same one I got is still available, says it's for the GL1000 and 1100 but it works fine for ours, just don't use the adapters.

I bought one of the cheaper mercury units off ebay. The mercury came in a little plastic bottle that you had to pour into the little container at the bottom. It worked ok, but the glass pipes the mercury is in wouldn't stay in place and bowed, the top that holds the mercury in place wouldn't stay put. I thought they were a pain so I switched back to gauges. I'm sure a higher priced mercury unit would be fine, but stay away from the cheap ones.
