  • Cruise Control...want it or not

The throttle on Banshee will not spring return back. Let go of the grip and it stays exactly where you left it. Works great for Cruise control....but not exactly safe!!

I thought it was just cable lubrication issue, or mis assembled switch and grip. So I took it apart and the cable will definitely snap back into place when not connected to the right grip. Same thing when put through the right switch assy.

slide the grip on the bars and it rolls around like its on bearings...no problems at all. But, put it all together, and it will not spring back. I've had a couple different sets of carbs installed and it does the same on both.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

Only thing that comes to mind is the grip/switch housing is in too far on the handlebar. Try sliding it out towards the end a bit.

I would agree. If you have aftermarket grips on it, they may go out beyond the end of the throttle tube and be dragging on the bars. I gotta be careful with mine with that. I understand that you can put a piece of copper tubing in the aftermarket ones to avoid that, but I've never bothered.

Tried sliding it ...did not help. Tried just putting the grip in the switch housing with no cable on it. Very stiff. So I tried filing on the plastic and it loosened up a bit. So, I now wonder if this is another of those Suzuki parts the PO put on this Yamaha. The plastic seems to big for the switch housing throttle slot.

I have the same problem with the 850 I'm working on. Bought a NOS throttle tube, and once I tighten the housing together, the tube won't twist unless I really (like with two hands) crank it, then it won't go back. I was thinking it was the throttle cable, but it snaps back fine when I pull it manually. Maybe we both have the wrong throttle tube?

            hey don,
i had the same problem with mine a little
while ago, i cleaned/filed up the throttle body
where it connects to the switch, lube it a little and works like a charm
            now.

Pete, mine is not where it needs to go yet, so I appreciate the confirmation that I'm on a path that has light at the end of the tunnel.

Mine now sloooowwwly goes back. So a bit more filing/grinding/sanding and maybe some graphite or cable lube on the grip and throttle housing.

                  mine tended to stick where
the 2 pieces of the throttle shaft
are molded together, give it a bit more
of a rubbing down and you should be good to go.

not sure if u have a throttle lock, but it was sticking
                  a bit there too.

If you need to, buy a throttle sleeve from MikeXS, that is the correct one.

Can still buy the OEM replacement throttle tube also......and it comes with the grip already on it.

                        Hey, Don.

Have you tried adjusting your cable tension? I had this problem on my last bike, and I just needed to loosen the cable tension at the grip end. It was binding against the cable housing. I don't recall fixing this on my 11, but I expect it works the same.

                        Good luck,
