  • side cover mysteries need explaining

    So.....according to this post http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30433 I have a 79 XS1100F

Now how do I (the novice) identify the correct left side cover? Any pics or special features to look for?

You need a left side cover from a 78-79 Standard model XS1100. That is the only one that will fit correctly. Make sure the lock tab is in tact before you purchase one. They show up on ebay from time to time, or you might want to contact member Andreashweiss, he parts out XS11's.

      Here's what you're looking for if it's a '79...

Check this against the right side cover you have...

      http://www.benefiscal.co.uk/partinfo...H7-21721-00-4E

If your cover doesn't look exactly like these pics, somebody has swapped a later cover on. Note the 'slots' in the cover; these should be the same on both sides. The '80 covers use slots on the right side, round holes on the left.

If the right side cover isn't a '78-79 (and I don't think it is), then you have to decide whether to buy (and modify) a matching left, or to buy a set of 'correct' covers...

Either way, expect to spend some time finding 'em, and don't expect them to be cheap.
