    Hi Kev,
the prep work and primer are the same whatever colour or surface texture paint you use so give it a few coats of flat black and see how you like it.
And only YOUR opinion matters, eh?
If you find that it ain't what you want after you see it on the bike, flat paints make OK primers so all you are out is ~$50 for another pint can of topcoat in your next choice of colour.

thanks Fred, but I want to see it first, if I don't like the flat black look, I'm not going to paint at all, my paint isin't that bad.

          Here is Hideki's old build:

It looks ok on this bike, so you can make your own opinion. I have always been of the opinion that flat paint was done by those that can't paint, but that is just me. If you like it, rock it.

              Hi T99,
what I reckon is, flat paint goes on real easy if you are happy with my "if you can't see the runs, curtains and orange peel from across the street it's OK" paint quality criterion.
If you want it to look perfect, that's entirely another story.

If you do go with the flat black look. Do not use black primer and leave it like that. Primer cane take the weather or sun. Use a real topcoat paint.

Yes, they do. But, in all fairness, I like the tanks they do with flat black and gloss center stripe.

I would go with what is referred to as tuxedo black. It's not the same as flat black. Midnight black is also similar. These blacks have a bit of a shine when viewed on an angle but appear flat when viewed straight on.
