From reading the forums, I am definately glad to have a good set of the stock exhaust. It seems like those are hard to come by!

They are double walled, they last, hard to find, 4 into 2, they are stock, a good set can bring as much cash as the bike itself. My buddy got a set of Macs and they were rusted in one year. Single walled pipes will blue the first time you run the bike. The stock pipes on my old 79 special were 30yrs old and spotless.79 XS11 Special (Lazarus)

Yamaha put a lot of time and money into the exhaust and that is what these bikes are meant to run with. Change to something else it takes a lot of work to get it to run well again, and even then you will still probably lose something in your power band.
A NOS still in box exhaust set just went for about 1600 on ebay a couple weeks ago.Nathan

What I figured is that he used it for demos, around a few blocks, up the freeway and back, and seldom got the pipes hot enough to boil the moisture out of the shell. So I do not use mine for short trips. Got a Kymco Sniper 50 for those.
So check the drain hole in the bottom of the stock muffler, and make sure it is open. CZComment
