  • Carb Bowl Screw Size

I am in need of four carburetor bowl screws. I bought a set of carbs off of ebay and failed to notice that the screws on the bottom of the bowls were not included. Does anyone have some that they are not too proud of $$$?

If not, does anyone know the size/pitch etc of the bolts? Do they need to be brass? If not, I can probably pick a replacement bolt up at the local Nuts-R-Us, if I have the size/pitch of the originals.

I'm sure that if you take the carbs into Home Depot or a similar establishment, you'll be able to quickly locate the correct allen-head screw.

They are M5x1.0 x 14 long. A fairly standard screw, but if your Home Depot is like mine, good luck finding any metric screws in that size. Supposedly they have them, but I've never seen any screws in the bin...

I think he is asking about the drain plug. Not the screws that hold the bowl to the body. I only have the 81 style with the side inlet drains.

If you have a ACE True Value hardware store I would check them first before Home Depot.

I have had better luck finding screws there. Also True Value has stainless and chrome bolts, nuts.

I think you're right... In that case the info is as follows:

                M8 x 1.25, approx 6mm long, 10mm head size, brass

I don't thing they have to be brass though. They do have a washer on them too.

                  Copper vs Fiber Washers

And my preference for the washer isn't copper nor plastic either. Sure...they may allow for extended and repeated "on/off" but I found that in order to get them to SEAL the torque was higher than I was comfortable with.

I go to an auto parts store to get Fiber washers suitable for use with gasoline. Plus I get an extra set just in case they tear. (What?? Me actually lose one? Nawh...That NEVER has happened.)
