  • 81 H fuse panel

can someone please tell me what the order of the fuses are in the fuse box , from front of bike to rear . is the ignition fuse first like all the other models < i understand that there were some changes in this year of bike.
Checking voltage across the battery last night ,there was a 6 V drop when the ignition switch was turned on I pulled the fuses and it is the fuse closest to the front of the bike. what all is on that circuit? It seems something is shorting somewhere
    TIA

Won't swear to the order, but by color of wire it goes liek this.

    Tan to R/W = Ignition
    Tan to Tan = Signals
    Tan to R/Y = Headlight
Blue to BLue = Tail light

Thank you for the prompt reply ............but alas...... the PO in his infinite wisdom decided that buying one honkin big roll of RED insulated wire was better than a bunch of smaller more correct wires ....so ...I can only answer "is that the front red wire ,middle or rear red wire "
so I need to know the order in which the fuses 'SHOULD" be placed on the panel , because that has changed as well

On my 81LH the fuses from front to back go
        10a Ignition
        20a Signal
        10a Head
        10a Tail
Here is a pic of a 80 wiring diagram which I use. I can not seem to find one of a 81 anywhere. If it does not come thru big enough you can PM me your email addy and I can send it in a bigger format. Hope this helps.

Of course you realize the same PO could easily have put them in any order. Perhaps if you trace the red wire back you will find where he spliced it into the original wire of the colors indicated.

                  Fuse block

                  Hi Jim,
The sun is out Maybe this would be the time to install the nice new Fuse block
Thanks everyone for such useful info.
I have tried Ccatatonic Bugs links but still do not find the Manual SUPPLEMENT for 1981. which gives some different values for some of the electrical tests.

It's on page 276 of the Clymers manual. However, '80 and '81 share the same diagram.

As the sun sinks slowly in the west.......
Hamjam cam e over and we tried a number of checks for voltage.
A few hours into the program the battery is almost completley drained. We now suspect the new in April battery may not be doing it;s job.
After another charge i will try and start the bike.
                          Thanks HamJAm.

Yeah it started after a few tries. And after a few minutes it ran without choke, smooth idle. 13.3volts ar 2500 rpm 14.2 Volts
To morrow night I will check again and see what if any charge is left.

To night I first checked for charge. 99% and 12.7 volts.
Fired on first try with choke and ran smooth. 13.1 volts but when i checked the % it was down to 75%
                              to be continued to morrow.
