I picked up a set of guages for my bike because the ones on it were not functioning correctly. Once on, I learned that the backplate with the numbers on it is sticking out in such a manner that it stops the needle at 4k rpms. Has anyone dealt with this problem before?

Can you see both the small screws that hold the face plate on? Do they look loose? or is there one missing? Either way it sounds like you might have to dismantle the guage to fix it. Theres a tech tip here that explains the process, if you have to dig into it.

Actually it seems as if the screws are still secured to their mounts. Perhaps something else separated inside? STUPID!!!
I should have kept posting on this subject. Both the screws were in place and solid.
Well, I followed the tech tip, and when I got everything apart I found that the bolt holding the tach unit into the bucket had come loose (somehow) at the tach unit side of the assembly; and having been loosed, drove the unit out toward the glass.
If I had suspected this simply tightening the mount bolt would have pulled the entire thing back together and solved the problem.
Nonetheless, problem solved...
