XJ1100 Rear Shocks

Hello people.

During the last winter, I stored my bike in my garage and after some weeks of snow and cold weather, I discovered that the bike was leaking some kind of oil through the rear right suspension. I've been doing some research and all I have found is that the shock uses air only, and I don't know if this is right. I've inspected the motorcycle and everything looks perfect, and I'm sure that the leaking oil is neither brake not motor oil. On the other hand, the rear suspension looks ok. The air level was low, so I refilled it and I have not noticed any trouble.

The XJ shocks use air over oil, and if the seals are leaking a little (and they can if their worn) they might need rebuilt. There is the thread on here about rebuilding the XJ air shocks, and from the description it sound pretty simple and easy to do, and should make them give another nearly 30 years of service. Of course I picked up a set on ebay that I put on my G for a pretty small price, and have had no leakage or other problems as of yet.

Make sure to get the right weight oil too. I would suggest good quality 5wt fork oil for the shocks. I plan on changing the oil on mine this winter during the non-riding season (all two or three days of it). The hardest part of refilling them is making the level gauge to get the level right as I understand it.
