  • O Ring on bottom of jugs

What is the point of that o ring on the bottom of the jugs? If I just them in and then use an anaerobic gasket maker instead of the real gasket will those o rings stay on or fall out onto the crank?

The o-rings keep oil from wicking up between the cylinder sleeves and the aluminum cylinders or seeping out around the cylinder base gasket.

If you use the o-rings they only need to be lightly compressed to seal and they won't fall out unless something went seriously wrong when the cylinders were put over the pistons into the upper engine case and the head bolted down.

      Gasket

This is a low pressure seal, unlike the head gasket, if you cut the gasket to OEM spec and use new o-rings, can buy many places, you should be fine

My thing is that I dont want to use a gasket there. It is such a PIA to get it off when you have to take it off. I want to know if those O rings can hold themselves in or if they need that little lip from the base gasket to hold them in.

The base gasket can be replaced with RTV. I know a few folks here have done just that with no problems.

Just be aware that leaving out the base gasket will increase your compression ratio and cause more slack in your cam chain.

I agree, if you dont want to spend the $ on a OEM gasket go buy a roll of gasket mat. and ink the bottom of the cyl for a pattern and cut out, but I would put a gasket back in there

Only the 30 year old ones are a PITA to remove. If you coat your new one on both sides with RTV, it should come off next time no problem, BTDT.
