is your standard tank good? If your standard tank is good I would trade straight up with you. I dont care about paint but as long as the tank isnt rusty I would trade. I have a special tank on my standard right now and I am looking for a standard tank.

Just dont understand these "special looks better than standard" guys. Specials are a dime a dozen.
Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas.

It is ALL in the eye of the owner! That is the great thing about the XS11's, you can mix and match like a Lego toy! I've both standard AND special, and I like them both, but for different reasons. Some of us remember the peanut tanks on the HD's, Brit Bikes, and anything else you could put them on. Looked cool at the time, even if you DID need to stop every 50 miles for gas!

Yep, I like the look of my standard. It's not the cookie cutter special at all. Every tank out there now looks like that, or at least the cruiser ones do.

Both are great bikes and it is an eye of the beholder thing but the Special sales # took Yamaha to 1st place for the first time ever and there is a reason "all the new tanks look like that". Some fokes feel that Sally Fields is better looking then Cindy Crawford, but not the mainstream

              Hi GT,
my SG rig gets the same gas mileage as my Buick. That's why it has a Standard tank on it plus a rack for a jerrycan. You may prefer how a Special tank looks but you'll really hate it when you run out of gas and have to push that 600lb machine to a gas station.

You're limited to XS11 tanks for anything that will bolt-on. If you're willing and able to do some fab work, I've seen a few 'other' brand tanks fitted but there's a fair bit of work involved. And whether those would be any cheaper, hard to say...

Wow! Of course you are dragging a sidecar around with you. While it's not a big difference, my G get 37 or so on the road, and 2 or 29 around town, my Chevy gets around 22 in town and almost 30 on the road.

It's still not great, but the enjoyment makes the gap even bigger.
