    im redoing my 1978 xs1100 and im missing a dimmer timer(i think thats what its called)i dont remember taking it off...do i need this and what does it do...

      No dimmer timer on the XS

      But there is
      Reserve lighting unit
      Head light relay
      High/low beam switch on left control

      All can be by-passed one way or another

        Hi Allen,
        closest thing to a dimmer timer on the '78 wiring diagram is a box called dimmer relay. WTF it does, where it's located and what it looks like, somebody else will have to tell you.

          dimmer relay thats it..i dont remember taking it off..its wiring location is by the horn..and thats all i know about..

            ?dimmer relay?

            May be what the RLU uses when it switches from a burned out low beam element to the high beam element to lower the power to the high beam.
