  • Two test?

OK, I did the "plug the vac. adj.". Rattel was less, so was preformance of course. Next, aginst my better judgment, I tryed the pluss gas insted of the prem I always use. Glad that works for some of your bikes, mine hates it but easy fix next tank full. My question is, would your next move be retard the timming after hooking vac. adj. again and if so, how much?

Plugging the vacuum adv shouldn't affect performance, it's for economy (I know, not something these things are known for) but the centrifugal advance is the performance one, and is all most other bikes have. Do you have the timing set by the book? It sounds like your timing might be too advanced. I've never heard of one of these bikes not liking the lower grade gas, only them not liking the higher stuff sometimes. So, if plugging it helped, I would say it sounds like your timing is too advanced. I gotten to where I'm tuning mine by ear, and I know it needs to be retarded just a bit more, because at full throttle at about 4k when fully heated up I can hear some traditional ping happening. (this is in high gear, in lower gears it just goes faster faster ).

      Thanks CY

That is exactly how mine runs, pinging under hard excel. in high gear till 4500 rpm, then "to the moon"! I will start moving timming back 2 degs. at a time till she smooths out, thanks. As to gas grade, I live in south florida where my motor is 100 degs. when I start it up, could be part of the reason + high "moon shine" gas down here.

I'm pretty sure from my shop days that a momentary ping as the throttle advances is ok, but once at full you shouldn't get any ping if the timing is right for the fuel and condition/design of the engine.
