  • Pickup Question

I cut and replaced the Pickup wires one at a time so that I wold not mix any up and then went back to the plug to check them. I still got nothing when I checked at the plug, just for S&G I tried checking One wire on one side and the opposing wire on the opposite side of the plug and then I got the readings I was supposed to. Are the wires supposed to cross like that in the plug or did a PO F things up again?

Not sure how you are testing but the top 2 wires are one coil and the bottom 2 are the other. Test ohms between each set of wires.

I am testing it at the plug behind the fuse panel not at the TCI.

Never done it that way. Plug all that up and go to the TCI . IMHO of course.

Well, put it on the bike! You never know with all the funky ground connections, whether things are actually connecting or not unless they are on the frame.

                My experiance

I checked mine from behind the fuse box

If remeber correctly it was a 6 terminal plug.
                Which looks somthing like this.

                ____ ____ ____

                ____ _____ ____

I got coil readings on the 2 outside terinals
Left side top & bottom one coil Right side top and bottom the other.

I also had to use K ohms and got a .720 reading
Which would be 720 ohms for some reading I could not get a reading on ohms.
I was using a digital fluke meter.

I all most cut out my coils thinking they were bad then I tried K ohms.

Ok so apparently the PO decided to do some "rewiring" of the pickups. So what I need to know is which pickup wires goes to what side of the connection behind the fuse block. Right now the wires are crossed at the connection but I need to know which wire to put where, so if someone could check for me on their bike I would greatly appreciate it!

Have you looked at the wiring diagram? It's in the back of the manual.

Its not specific enough to show me which wire goes to what side of the plug. I need to know exactly which wire goes to what slot in the connector. A PO pulled the wires out and mixed them around.

                          Hi Nathan,
the wiring diagram also shows the wiring colours. The E & F diagram shows 5 wires in the plug & socket, {the Sb wire connection in the 6-way plug and the tap off the R/W wire between the pickup and the plug are to do with the neutral light.} the other 4, (R/W, G/W, G/Y & R/Y) are from the pickups. All of them just need to be hooked up colour for colour for the connections to be correct.
Comparison with later model diagrams shows the Sb wire connecting right through without involving the pickups and the G/Y & R/Y wires replaced by Y & Y which last may or may not imply that swapping your G/Y & R/Y wires won't make a difference.
Mind you, if your dreaded PO has used different coloured wires, you may well be f**ked.

Nathan, the PO may have pulled the wires on the other side of that plug as well, so maybe you'd best match up what colour male side matches what colour female side and not worry about position.

I have the wire colours for the UK 'Sport' model, hopefully they'll be the same as yours.

                            ---------Pickup Side---TCI Side
                            Pickup 1-Black----------Yellow/Green
                            Pickup 1-Grey-----------Yellow/Red
                            Pickup 2-Blue-----------White/Green
                            Pickup 2-Orange---------White/Red
