i wondered that but i haven't adjusted those (aside from swapping the floats in 1&2) and it was running excellent before i took the carbs off seems like (due to the popping) the problem is coming from 3&4 which i didn't even touch . . . still wont idle either1979 XS1100SF 37000km

so i just checked and 3&4 had gas in the bowls, bike runs about the same even with those bowls drained, so i'm thinkin my problems lies there, again it was running great, all i did was take off the carbs and swap the 1&2 float bowls, i've also double checked my fuel lines for kinks and proper routing, vacuum lines seem to be in the correct position also, NEED HELP the weekend is here!!!1979 XS1100SF 37000km

all bowls have just under 4oz of fuel in em, except number 2 which was a little less than that. (i put the number 1 float bowl on number 2 and adjusted it as i was suspicous that float as rich) i'll adjust it back1979 XS1100SF 37000km

Pretty sure you have to go further than around the block. I go for a 20 minute ride before trying to read plugs. They have to get up to their self cleaning temperature to give you an accurate read.

To get an 'accurate' read on plugs, can take couple hundred miles. The engine has to be at full operating temps, choke off, etc.
The only exception is doing the 'chop' test, which looks for slightly different things.
When I first got my carbs running properly, they looked white for about 300 miles, when they started to get the light tan tinge to them.Last edited by Crazcnuk; 07-09-2010, 11:46 PM.Nice day, if it doesn't rain...
