    kick start gear

    ok got in countershaft..but s--t forgot about kick start gear, do i need it because I am TOTALLY over this bike!! I just want it back together, I pulled the shift fork shaft(again) and dropped the coountershaft(again) but now that f---reaken kickstart gear is in the way. now I am picturing an xs on fire and watching with a rolling rock in my hand!@!!

    IF you don't want to use the kick start, you don't "need" it. Just keep the outside part so you don't have a big oil leak!

      so the splined part on the clutch cover will be good?

        As long as you have the kick start boss installed (held on with 3 bolts), then you can install the outer shaft in it, and then thru the clutch housing without it leaking oil. It will be immobilized without those inner gears installed though. I eliminated my kick starter altogether by passing a 1/2" carriage bolt with a rubber washer thru the clutch housing, and a washer and lock nut on the inside. Got rid of the entire shaft. Did that 5 yrs. ago, no leaks. HTH
