I burned 600 ml (20.2884140014648 fluid US onces) on day one of XS north.
Anybody behind me see smoke at XS north? I didn't.

I tend to run 20w50 oil.

Think its somewhat normal to burn oil for me, i think i get some blow by on piston one and the blow by make an air flow out the crankcase breather.

Steamy hot oil from engine slowly vaporing out of the crankcase.

Wonder if thats where our oil goes? Re-burned in air boxes or released on pod beasts.

ALL internal combustion engines burn oil, period.

Some just less than others. Yours just doesn't burn enough for you to worry between oil changes.

Maybe i simply don't see it-hate getting involved in oil discussions as opinions vary and what happens on one bike is not true for all bikes.

                Oil burning?

Any gas motor will use/burn some oil. Nature of the beast, pressure, heat, friction, ect. The harder you push the more it will use, IE, a tight motor will use X% more under high loads then under under low loads as a worn or poorly spec. motor will use X% more also under load. Most bikes have the disadvantage of being air cooled, many huge changes in temp/load. One "bad" day on your motor can cause all kinds of wear inside. Most rebuilders dont take the time to go 0 gap on rings, nor does the OEM, just takes to much time/skill. If you are burning oil and cant see smoke or plug foul. go one grade higher, ie, 10w40 to 20w50 and check compression, if that is good, check valve seals IMHO.

"Hate getting involved in oil discussions as opinions vary "

That and most people really don't know what oil really does, how it does it or why you use the various types. Opinion has very little to do with real science.

They just buy into the advertising, and local superstition.

I chuckle when I see all the 'brand' wars, and people changing synthetic way too often, or those that use oils way thicker than they need to.

                  But, what can one do?
