Does anyone know where I can purchase a new jet needle thats one step richer for the 79 xs 1100 there is no dynokit available?

  • #2
    hey boediddly,
u can always make the needle richer by
placing a small washer under the circlip
    to raise it.
every now and then ive seen dj kits available for the
    79 on ebay.

The 79 should have adjustable needles in it already.

        Dyno Kit

Ivan, are the Dyno kits on Mike's XS the correct ones? Just wondering. By the way, you are right about the needles being adjustable already.

My head is ported with an extra bit of valve work along with some other mods like exhaust, intake, cam timing and ignition. But aside from the head work, the motor is still stock. Center position with stock needles still works for me but main and pilots have been jetted up a few notches.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

Next richer one?? As far as I know, there is no such thing. You can adjust them, but that is all the adjustment/change available/needed.

i was reading a while back the factory pro site, that does something
similar, ur wanting a thinner needle to give you a richer mixture,
but i think it was a special order and it came with the emulsion tube.

if the heads ported there should be enough adjustments on the needle
to richen it or you could try richening your floats slightly.

thats the funny thing, the exhaust port was cleaned up, wasnt even a good polish , the top of the piston was polished and the carb was cleaned up( the throttle plate screws filed down and the edge sharpened . Not real serious mods , mods i have done to other bikes and didnt have to adjust anything but this bike after much trial and error wont run without the jet needles in the richest position plus three yes three half step washers. It will now run good but somewhat lean ,at first I was amazed at how little the mods were as compared with the changes in jetting, but now im wondering what is really going on ,also the compression is 170 across the board (a little high ) it has 140 mains but its starving for fuel at wot

That\\\\\\\'s only one size larger from stock mains (137.5) for the 79 Special if you are using Mikuni jets. Dynojet uses a different number system, don\\\'t recall you saying which brand you are using.

I'm by no means a carb expert but the way I understand it you won't be able to tune the midrange (with the needles) until you've got the proper size main jets. Float height can also effect this, so make sure you've got that set to spec also....

                        hows the bike actually riding?

you do need to start from the top and work
your way down, mains, needle, floats,
then always adjust mixture settings and sync after
each change, what ive found in general is that if the needle
is set at stock and is running on the lean/rich side then your
                        mains are usually running lean/rich.

what settings have you got ur carbs set at atm?
