Does the regulator/rectifier normally get rather hot when the bike is running? Was syncing the bike the other day and put my arm down on it and it hurt.

Did you have a fan blowing on the engine while you were syncing? My only assumption is that since the bike was sitting still it got hotter than normal.http://www.myspace.com/i_give_you_power

yes it should get "hot", how hot I don't know. The Reg/Rec works (in part) by turning electricity into heat, that's why its got those big cooling fins on it.
+1 on the fan, you don't want to get the engine too hot from sitting and idling for long periods.1979 xs1100 Special -

I honestly have never felt the RR while the bike has been running. I know I have never experienced the amount of heat your talking about form one, but I can't say that I have touched one that soon after or during operation.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
