Jardean headers

Went to put these spageaty headers on (ok not spelled right) but you get the idea
Any way the stock studs are to short, my question is how hard are these studs to get out to replace them with longer one's

Sometimes they come out fairly easily, sometimes they can be a bear. Soak 'em all first with penetrating oil (not WD40) and give 'em a go. Heat may be used if necessary, have a fire extinguisher handy tho. I'd try removing them first with the double nut method, if no luck, vise grips, a small pipe wrench, or an actual stud removal tool should get the job done. I've bought replacement metric studs before at Ace Hardware, they have a bunch of different lengths. Good luck!

I believe its either Lisle or OTC that makes a stud remover/installer that looks like a 3/8 drive socket with a plate over the end held in by a snapring. This design is by far the best for removing studs. Inside, it has rollers that fit in wedge shaped recesses and as they roll, they tighten on the stud. Its almost exactly like our starter clutches work. You'll need the 5/16 size for the 8mm exhaust studs. It will be pricey, but its a great thing to have around, especially if you do a lot of older Chevy water pumps. It'll pay for its self the first time you use it, because you'll think "That was easy".

If you can't find one, I can try to look around for one and ship it to you, but mine is NOT for sale.

Stud remover

You can rent the stud remover set in sae or metric at Auto Zone. Comes with 4 different sizes. Do not remember price. I went to Fasten All and they did not carry metric studs and could not order them! Got a short one from Auto Zone.

One other thing, the stock studs have a short end and a long end. I think the proper orientation is for the short one to go in the head, so that may help with not buying new studs.

I installed my Super Trapp with s/s bolts and lock washers.
Any advantage of bolts vs studs?

I ran my Guzzi with stainless allen head bolts for years instead of the stock studs, no problem...but if you go that route be sure to use a good anti-sleaze, so you don't end up stripping out the soft aluminum threads next time you remove the headers.

Or.....just buy a 3' length of 8mmx.125 SS allthread and make your own the length you want.

That'll run you about $15-$20 and a little elbow grease.

Anti-sleaze also keeps the XSOkieSpecials from fouling up the paint.

Got em out

Goty em out and the headers on, still had to use the vice grips on a couple of them, the frame was in the way for the tool.
Dont know why I am going to all this trouble just to hear the headers, gona take this motor out and put in another bike, had to hear those headers I got from Karla I gess, lol ( thanks karla )
Wateing for bruce to bring me those two bikes I bought at karla's, said he would bring them friday, gona pay him to deliver them, buy the time I rent a trailer and pay for gas just as cheep to pay some one elece to haul them, 42 miles one way from my house.

Well now pillgram ! i live in the country so if I want to shoot the guy down the road, by the time I walk down there i will change my mind and unload my gun, and florida is a long ways from here, lol
And as far as the SWMBO go's, somrtimes my liveing room is the man cave, she left along time ago, lol
