Does anybody out there know if rear shocks from an 82XJ will fit a 78XS?

I don't have your answer, but if you go to parts.com, or any of the online parts sites that use the micro-fiche, you can look-up the part # for both bikes to see if they match.

Or go to www.progressivesuspension.com and see if they list the same applications.

The XJ stock factory shocks are air adjustable. The fitting is on the left-side rear shock. Both shocks are tied tgether through a pipe so pressure is balanced. Shocks will fit the XS but you should get the plumbing that goes with them. If you are talking aftermarket units, yes the XJ and XS shocks are interchangeable. They are not air adjustable, so you need to remove the plumbing when you remove the stock shocks.

Item #23 is balance tube. Air fitting parts are #16, 17, and 18.

FWIW, I run the stock shocks at 24 - 28 PSI.

            Buffalo,

I put a set of Air Shocks off a 82 XJ on my 81 XS. I was trying to get a lower seat for a short legged man. I let all the air out of the shocks and gained a little but not enough. I have since installed a set of 11" Progressive 412's. That was the ticket for me. Getting back to your question, yes, I think they will fit, looking at the 78 vrs the 81. Seems to be the same set up.

I bought it for a bargain, now it is a prize.
