While cleaning my carbs I slightly damaged the top of the nozzle above the main jet. The top that sticks up in the carb is no longer round but a little oblong. Do I need to replace this part now or will it still function properly?

It's the hole on the inside that matters. As long as that wasn't damaged you should be fine. If it's bothering you, jets are cheap.
And welcome to Ch11! What part of Missouri are you in? My dad was from the Cape Girardeau area, and the family still has two farms there.Last edited by dbeardslee; 05-24-2010, 12:28 PM.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

You must be talking about the emulsion tube... the needle goes inside the tube and they are responsible for F/A mixture. Its likely the damage will effect its ability to perform its function. No idea how much though... Thats why others have recommended using a wooden dowel to pound the tube out rather then grabbing it with pliars and pulling it...or anyother method.Last edited by WMarshy; 05-24-2010, 12:44 PM.'79 XS11 F

I checked the fiche, and it shows the same tubes for all 80 and 81 carbs, on all models. I forgot I had an old set of 80/81 carbs out in the mancave that I disassembled a couple years ago. I just dropped one of the emulsion tubes in carb cleaner - can't read anything on it like it is. If you've got 80 carbs, chances are good it's the right tube. Just goes to show you, it's better to be lucky than good any day .I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Your best bet is to contact andreashweiss and ask him if he will sell you one... Not all of them have the same number of holes in them. Im not sure if this was just the earlier style or the later... Some had different # for cylinders 1, 4 vs. 2, 3...'79 XS11 F

The one I've got is marked (directly under the notch) 2 (or Z) - X followed by the mikuni logo (box in a box). About 1/4" below that marking is 008, or 800 depending on how you hold it. 008 if it's in the same orientation as the 'upper' marks. There are six orifices on the tube. Two opposed sides have two holes - one appears to be slightly larger than the other. On the other opposed sides there is a single hole that is on the same plane as the larger of the 'other' holes. You could go with mikes, and most likely get the wrong tube. Or you could go with Andreas (if he'll break carbs apart to sell a tube). Or you can have this one for the price of postage.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Man... everytime I look at these brass carb parts I can help to think about the Swizz Lathe shop I use to work at. Those machines could probably turn out a replacement tube in 30 seconds, and main jets in probably 15 seconds! I know the manager well enough that if I needed, he would whip me up a few if I asked.Last edited by WMarshy; 05-24-2010, 05:53 PM.'79 XS11 F

as some of the others have stated,
if you havent ruined the hole the needle
slides into and have only distorted the top
of the tube, you might be able to reshape it
with some pliers, you should be sweet to go,
you could put it together and try it until you can
find a replacement.pete
