I have discovered that my phone camera doesn't really have enough memory for video at the high resolution setting so I have to go find a Sony M2 memory card somewhere. I was thinking about getting one anyway and now's a good time to do it. It's always something.

You and Ivan and a couple of others are all having a similar problem at the same time. Yours is the worst if people riding next to you are putting in earplugs when it happens. Maybe it's the new spring weather you all need a new spring!

Yeah, I'm wondering if something in common amongst all of us has happened? I sure hate to put that nice blacked out engine I got from dragxs11 in there and find I have the same sound in there (well, it wouldn't be too bad, it's a really nice looking engine) as well. I'd sure like to have a better idea of just what this stupid noise is, because it's really starting to get on my nerves, and while I know it sounds pretty loud to me with the fairing on there, it might not really be as loud as it sounds to me.

getting back to the vac advance then,
i had one that wasnt holding vacuum so i cut it
up,
heres a pic of whats inside...





its a bit hard to see but in the 2nd pic it looks like it could be adjusted by putting more or less tension on the spring, how this would effect the bike i dont know and i guess only a dyno would really tell.

but ive got another 1 in front of me that holds vacuum, ive got this connected up to a vac guage and it acheives full vacuum at 3.5in hg the clymers manual states it should be fully advanced at 5.9in hg, so thinking out loud maybe adjusting that screw to allow the vac adv fully at 5.9in hg might make a difference?

it looks like the set screw moves the piston in and out (adj full adv) and
the thingy that the set screw screws into adjusts the spring
pressure.
