Strange rubber tube...where's it go?

Ok I have a 81 sh mod. after getten it home and looken it over I saw a small 1/8" thin walled rubber hose comming from the back of the trainy...its on the top......it has a flat metal clamp with a small bend and a mount hole in it. The clamp is curved at one end and is around the hose. Can any one tell me where this goes? Just under the batt. area.

That is the vent to the middle drive. The bracket you mentioned mounts with the bolt that holds the top air box mount in place. Look under the gas tank, there is a spot for it.

Ok, what does the tube connect to?

Nothing, it is a vent. It just sits in that bracket under the tank.

The middle drive vent hose goes from the vent in top of middle drive up to front upper center connection of air box.

Actually the main crankcase vent goes to the center of the airbox. A much larger hose...

Yep, the Crankcase breather hose is about 5/8-3/4" hose OD, it hooks to that center spot in the air box. On the older bikes (78-79) the float bowl vents form the carbs go to the smaller holes on each side of the air box.

The middle drive vent just sits open to atmosphere in that bracket under the tank.
