On my XJ I can not get the valve cover off and it seems that I must "move" the motor in some manner. Any suggestions? There is a frame brace in the way. Do I need to remove the engine mounts and rock it forward or back? I would like to cut the brace off as I see no need for it except to hold the brake line splitter. The manual says it should just come off, yea right.

Just ME and my 82 XJ 1100. Mac 4>1-2 1/2" open baffle shotgun, no octy, K&N pod filters, LED tail/brake light & directionals, 750 FD mod, Ear Cannon air horn, modified bars and dash. It should come out without having to move the motor. #1 is make sure all the bolts are out (I know, sounds dumb, but I've done it before ). I usually get mine out from the left side, but you have to get it up high enough to clear the cam sprockets. Usually takes a little wiggling around, and you want to make sure it isn't catching on the clutch cable. Usually have to wiggle it back and forth a little too. You just have to be meaner than the valve cover .

I know on the XS it is a very tight fit to get the cover over the cam and sprockets. I assume it is very tight on the XJ, but have never owned or worked on one.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
