  • wierd carb/rpm problem

I've gotten so far as the bike runs now, not great but it runs .I've taken it for a few short runs to feel out any problems and after shifting into, riding, and shifting out of gears the rpms wont come down all the way. It hangs up around 2.5k-3k. I know it's not a throttle cable problem or a problem with the springs/pivots that are moved with by the throttle because they always return to neutral position when I let off the accelerator. Also the #1 cylinder doesn't seem to be firing at all or if it is it's really rich, cause it's header barely gets hot while the other headers, are peel your flesh from your fingers if you touch them hot.

I still need to adjust/shim the valves, and the carbs are not synced or colortuned or anything just barely st at the same level with a feeler gauge.

Any ideas anyone on what's going on with it?

Sounds like your having carb issues. Synchronization is important for idle setting. I'd get the tuning and synching done, then see what happens.

I think you answered your own question..

i figured that's why the idle isn't coming down but why is the #1 cylinder so much cooler than the others?

As to no 1, look at the plug and that may tell you some things.

Even so, when your checking the header temps, is it after it has idled for a bit? If so, then idel adjustment may help it.

well I ran it for a short time with the exhaust headers off and holding my hand in front of ex-ports 1 and 2. Even right from the start the exhaust from #2 was much hotter than #1(what #1 was putting out was about as warm as a fart)

What does the plug from no 1 look like? It can tell alot about what the problem may be.

That plug is running pretty rich. Could be your issue with number one going cold at idle anyway. Although it does not look like it is fouling out.

The miss at low RPMs is a sign of low compression. Have you checked that?

                      Maybe a bent valve?

However a syc might cure it.

the valves are alright (or they'd better be, I just replaced them ) the compression is 120 on 1,2 and 3 and 125 on 4. It also has a hard time starting but that points to poorly tuned carbs too. so I guess it going to be a bit of work tuning them coming up.
