  • when should i mod the 2nd gear?

i flipped my bike over today and pulled the pan off. the thing looks perfect! the lands where the shift forks ride aren't even shiny yet. the transmission was working fine before it was parked. so i guess my question is, should i tear it down the rest of the way and cut down the gears, or just flip the washer, or just leave well enough alone until i actually have an issue? thanks!

Leave it for when the issue arises, unless you just want the practice.

I would go ahead and do the washer swap on 2nd gear. I would think that may save you from going back in again.

There are a number of these bikes that have gone 80k miles without ever needing the fix (I know of one with its original owner that has not). So you may be that lucky.
