According to the Clymers it is calling for GL4 but I couldnt seem to find any of that. Everything I saw was GL5. What should I run in my middle and final drive?

80/90 weight FULL SYNTHETIC hypoid gear oil would be prefered. Any auto parts store will have it. You can use synthetic in the gears, but a lot of people have problems with their clutches slipping if they use it in their motors. Some don't though?

Before you drain your middle drive (If you haven't already) make sure you can remove that filler plug.

There was at one time a consideration about GL-5 vs GL-4, in that early GL-5 oils had a reputation for attacking brass, bronze and aluminum due to corrosive effects of the EP (Extended Protection) additives. This has been pretty much addressed over the years though, from what I understand.
I wouldn't use an old can of GL-5 that has been in my garage for several years in my middle drive, personally.Guy

I do recall when you needed a can opener to open up the oil. When it was really a CAN of oil. Of course those were the days you could pick up old beer cans along the road and make a tennis ball cannon out of them. Try it now and the can explodes and the ball goes no where.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
