instrument panel/windshield glare

So, I like to go on a 15-20 mile ride at night some times on some local back-roads I know pretty well. Only problem is, I get this horrible glare on my windshield from my instrument panel, and it is especially bad with the high beam on. It might not be too bad, but the glare is right at 1-3 seconds ahead of me, so it's difficult to see that part of the road, and that's the part of the road I look at to make sure I stay on the road, in my lane. It drives me nuts.

I'm wondering if anyone has any type of cowl or other method that they've put together to block the speedo, tach, & status lights from reflecting off of the windshield. Tonight I stopped at a gas station part way through and grabbed part of a 6 pack box, but I could only get it over the high beam, turn signal area without falling off. Any ideas or pictures of your own solutions would be great. I'm looking to find something that doesn't look as junkie as a piece of cardboard.

Yamaha made a shield for the XS11 Standard instrument panel to eliminate the glare, they turn up on eBay from time to time. You can see it on this XS11 Venturer.....

Hi drake,
lose the windshield, lose the problem.
OTOH, fake up a glare shield from cardboard & duct tape, fiddle with it until it works right then spray it with matte black BBQ paint.

It's just about impossible to get a good photo without removing the fairing. Look at the right side of the shield where it wraps around about half way down the tachometer. Now look at the left side, and see that it wraps around the speedometer in the same way. The line of those two sides carries right around under both gauges, forming a sort of bucket under them. The shield is held on by two nuts, which are the lower, outside nuts holding each gauge into its cover. I think I may have a picture somewhere of a shield before it is mounted, if only I can find it.

Still have my instrument cover, but had taken it off as it interfered with the stereo housing. Ken, even with that close shot pic, looks like your Venturer needs ridden to blow the dust off...as does mine.
