  • set of bars

Hey everyone. I'm thinking of going with more of a drag bar set up. I like the lower riding position over the strait up position of the stock strait up style. I saw another thread that says euro bars work well. I can get a nice black set off ebay for about twenty bucks. anyone else got any other ideas or pictures of your lower bars?

    Thanks
    Tony

      Hi freak,
bars is like shoes, the size in the catalog is only a guide.
You won't know for sure how well they will fit until you try them on.
Certainly I ended up with a small library of swapmeet-sourced bars that weren't quite right for me but that others found suited them perfectly.
FWIW, I ended up with Honda CB750 bars that I love but you'd most likely hate 'em.

Drag bars worked well for me, but I liked clubmans even better. Most can be found for about $20. The clubs provide awesome handling, and really crappy long distance comfort. I can ride through a full tank of fuel, but faster is definitely better than slower. The drag bars are a pretty good medium between the two. I just liked the clubman handling a little better. I just posted some pics of the bike under one of Hideki's threads a page or so down.
Like Fred said, though, you won't know until you try it.

Healthy is merely the slowest rate at which you can die

Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better. I’ve always believed this, in spite of the trouble it’s caused me. ive had superbike bars on my bike since i got it pretty much

they were alright as far as long range comfort went

all the controls worked fine, but the master cylinder was on a steep angle, but the brakes work fine

i just recently put drag bars on, but havent ridden the bike too far with them yet

            heres a pic

on full turn, the right side hits the tank because of the housing for the starter switch and run/off switch

im gonna loosen the allen bolts and raise the bars up a little bit til it clears

              Nice bars

Who makes those drag bars? They look great.

NotDead, those look like regular 1-2" rise drag bars with a MikesXS chrome clamp. I have the same clamp, but his is upside down.

Thanks, bikerphil. I am converting my 81 special to a more sporting set up and am considering superbike or drag bars with bar end mirrors. Is the stock size 7/8"? Do you know if you can fit 1" on stock clamps?

This site will give you a very good idea of what is out there for bars, perches, setbacks etc. You may not like their prices but may find the set that has the look you are after. Then you can search and find cheaper ones elsewhere.

                          Hi Nate,
my bike came with them too but they were far too Harleyesque for my liking.
Luckily the chrome encrustment comes off real easy with a pair of sidecutters to expose the quite elegant diamond pattern all rubber grips underneath.
                          And NDY,
no, you need 7/8" to 1" setbacks to use 1" bars.
Even if you cherry out the 7/8" clamps to fit the 1" bar the clamping bolts are too close together to let the 1" bar fit between them.

Don't forget, if you switch to 1" bars, now none of your hand controls fit either...
