Fred, So you cut the crome part off?...thats awesome...but why didn't you just pull them off?...I have to agree with you on the Harleyesque part...I forgot to say i dont have them on my XS...They are on my Marauder 1600...which i've customized a bit, with things like a mustang saddle, those grips, and straight pipes... I dont want my bike to look or sound like a Harley...but i get more compliments on it than all my friends with harley's...they get pissed...I think its great!...

the rubber cores were 100% usable, indeed, they worked better than before once the chrome was removed.
Also, removing them would have forced me to buy a new set.
What part of cheap don't you understand?Fred Hill, S'toon

well, everybody does that; carb bodies are expensive and hard to find, after all.
But no, the chrome trim won't pull off in one piece because the rubber diamond-shapes stick up through the chrome matrix.
So you gotta use side-cutters (and yes, I know that dykes is their proper name but I can't bring myself to use it).Fred Hill, S'toon

Actually, that's a brand name that's come to identify that tool (diagonal cutting pliers), much like channellock (adjustable pump pliers), kleins (9" linemen pliers), crescent wrench (adjustable wrench), or hickey (rigid conduit bender)...

Here's a pic of mine....
Here's mine. I got them cheap on ePay for about 25 bucks shipped.... I really like the looks of them. Gets kinda tiring riding for longer periods of time though.... The left side controls barely hits my tank, now I have a small ding on my tank. I think I'm gonna get some handlebar risers/spacers to bump them up an inch so they won't hit the tank.
