If you can figure out how to access it, you could use the dead space in the back of that seat as a trunk!!!
Doin't know if that's againt the feel you're going for, but very practical..

Too big, do you really want to raise the seat?

I'm crazy about classic racing sportbikes from the '80s, this particular XS11 has always been about straying away from the ordinary. The seat had to be at that angle to achieve the sport bike look I was going for. It's big, I know. It wasn't meant to look like a modern sportbike, but rather from the period. I'll take better pictures, but this thing looks absolutely insane in person.

From the looks we share the same exhaust. Mine came with the bike, my XJ, I am trying some various baffle configurations. I removed the inner by carefully grinding the welds, just in case I want to put it back, and drilled holes around the main outlet. It is a little louder without being obnoxious. Do you know the brand by chance? I like where you are going and it gives me ideas for putting my parts bike back on the road.

Well just an update (not really an update just a post so everyone knows I didn't just disappear) I haven't done any more progress with the bike, just enjoying the thing and fixing the small problems that come up for the most part. I included a few photos as the bike sits now. It's dusty in the pics, been pushed around the shop lately as I try and work on the billion other projects I have going on. I know the rear section looks huge in the pics, but keep in mind there will be a full endurance fairing on the front of the bike ultimately.

Lets get real, until that rear it was ok. Thats not 80's racing unless your taking luggage with you! A standard tank would look great.

About this "Lets get real" mumbo jumbo about it not being 80's racing... Here's a pic with the same rear

No, yours is bigger. And the front of your bike says one thing and the rear another. Needs a standard tank, special is for "specials"

I agree on the standard tank for the look you seem to be going for,, as far as the rear,, im not gonna comment till i see it with the fairings n the front/sides to pull it all together.. im not sure of the angle tho..seems like it has its butt in the air with a low front end. lol but maybe its just the angle of the pictures!!! great job so far no mind what we think.. the vision is in your eyes not ours

I'll probably just make a bracket to hang it under the seat pan or something. Still wondering what tank I'm gonna end up using. The stock XS tank just seems sooo big now, kind out of place. I want one that's narrower and with knee cutouts, if anyone has an idea of something that would fit the frame of these bikes give me a shout. Still trying to hunt down some velocity stacks too, if anyone's got some I'd probably just about do anything for a set at this point. I'm also planning on getting a set of aftermarket headlight ears and a new smaller headlight so I can mount it lower (they look freakin awesome that way)
the standard tank has that kind of look with slight knee cut outs, i think that would be your best bet, unless you cut the bottom out of the tank you have and attach it to a different tank half (alot of work tho)

i dont think it is any bigger but it looks like it is sitting a bit higher than the one in the photo, but looks the same to me.

The difference is in the angle of the seat. Compare the distance from the bottom of the rear tire to the top of the tires in the two bikes. Same fairing, different angle. I think you need to get that front fender on it with a standard tank and then let us look at it.

Get back working on this, I'm excited to see it finished.
