so while i'm waiting for my title, i figured i'd clean up the brake system. i figured, as long as i'm going through all the work, maybe i should consider getting rid of the linked system. what are the pro's and con's? anybody have a front splitter they'd like to sell?

I thought the linked system started on the 81s (LH)not the 80(LG) model"If A equals success, then the formula is: A = X + Y + Z. X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut." - Albert Einstein

As to pros and cons, well, you get some front brake system if your front MC fails on a lynked system. On non-lynked you get control over front versus rear which can be valuable in some situations.
Typically only the LH and the XJ had lynked brake systems.
As to the parts to change out, well you want to change all of it in my opinion as the front MC is different as well as just the splitter. But, look at the parts listing between an XJ or an LH and say an SH or any other models.
If you want the parts, I have an SH I will be parting out soon.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

DGSXER, i'd be interested in the parts. please let me know when you get to that point. for now i'll just clean up what i have and take it from there. this is the first bike with a linked system that i've owned, but i haven't driven it yet. it took me a few minutes to figure it out when i went to bleed the front brakes.1981 xs1100 midnight special

Personally I like the simplicity and control of the unlinked system...

Sounds like a PO liked linked brakes and changed it out on you. The 80 models including the 80 MNS did not have them stock.
I'll see how it all goes Sunday on the tear down and PM you with more info.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
