I went thru most of the posts last night, and I don't think anyone has pulled this bonehead manuever yet.
I read where somebody used a strip of paper in lieu of a gauge to check the mid drive fluid level. Not having one or making one yet, I used the measurements described in another post and did the same.
Only I dropped about a 1/8th of a post-it down the filler hole!!
Couldn't fish it out, and I'm hoping you long time XS riders will tell me I didn't lite a fuse to a drive-by bomb. I'm thinking the gears will chew it up in short order, and another fluid change will flush it out.
Will the XS gods forgive this neophyte?

I used poster board and printed from the post onto that. Nice and stiff,It works great. I am eventually going to transfer to a soda can or similar. I would think the post it would chew up as well, but let the Gurus chime in as they know much better than I.

It will be just fine.

paper is very soft and non-abrasive.

it will get "ground-up" while you drive and it will come out as fibers the next
time you change the oil.

no harm done.

To get the oil (and any floating particles) into the gears, it has to first pass through the oil pump. The oil pump has a screen on it that's about 3" in diameter. The only thing I'd be concerned with is the paper getting stuck to the pump screen and limiting the flow. I doubt it will come out the drain hole at the next oil change though. It would most likely stick to the oil pan or something else. You may have to pull the oil pan to remove it...

More like my brain matter being shredded. Very dumbass move, but luckily one I'll skate on.
I must have still been digesting what I found when I pulled my airbox; a nicely furnished, multi-level rodent condo, complete with built-in garbage disposal. I'll post a pic when I figure out how, but after I cleaned that puppy out, this old horse ran like a nun from an 81 BBQ! If this had been a single carb motor, I would have never even got it home. I might have to call this bike "Lucky".

Rather it is a strategy we students use to try to deflect the professor from asking us further questions. Particularly with the younger professors, the strategy is quite effective. In an ideal situation, this strategy can be used by 3 or 4 students to make the teacher lecture for the entire class period.

Why would you want the professor to lecture the entire class? When I was in school if the teacher ran out of things to say we got to leave early. And even if they did lecture the entire time we still had "home work".

You don't get out early. It's either the teacher is out to prove you don't know anything by asking you questions or the teacher is out to make sure you understand things their way in response to your questions.
