    Viragos And Their Swingarms

    Hey Gang,

I'm wondering if anyone has actually put a Virago swingarm and drive shaft on an XS 11?
    Is it all theory?
    I'm gonna by-god give it a shot!
So if anyone has any ideas, I'd sure appretiate!
    Joe

It's clear that I will somewhat be pioneering this mod.
I reckon I'll document it for the 1 out of every 5000 members that's interested
I'm looking at swingarms on Ebay. They're pretty cheap.
I know of a guy doing this with an XS 850 on another board, but he hasn't got to any of the meaty parts yet.
Hopefully he'll make all the mistakes for me.

Yeah, someone has already done it...sorry your not the first. Although you could be the first to do a tech tip on the mod and give us nice pictures. From my understanding you can get a wider tire between the Virago swing arm... maybe 150 IIRC

not sure what year your looking at but my dad has a 85 virago that the swing arm was slightly bent on when he got it, he replaced it. If your interested in using the old one for "mock up" or whatever then shoot me a pm and I'll put you in touch with him. I'm sure he'd let the slightly bent one go for next to nothing, probably just shipping.

Aww heck they're cheap enough on Ebay, that if it don't work it's no big loss. Thanks for the offer though

Do you or anyone else have a pic of the finished product? It'd be good to have a general idea of where it is I'm going.
I'm going to order one next payday. Once it gets here it will take a month or so to either pass with flying colors or put the old swingarm back on!

My brother had a XV750 and I'll admit it was a neat bike, the v-twin and monoshock gave visions of a Ducati-like cafe racer project into my mind (he ended up going a different direction with the bike though) But I was also incredibly interested in seeing if the monoshock swing arm would work for the XS11

There will be plenty of time for riding when the work is done.
Now go back to pondering the meaning of life.

                      OK
I'm undecided on what swingarm assembly will work best.
                      1984 virago 1000,
                      1985 virago 700,
                      1984 virago 700,
                      1988 virago xv1100,
                      1995 virago xv1100.

                      I'm leaning toward the 1984 1000.
If anyone out there has a better idea on what will work best I'd greatly appretiate it. TIA

with the exception of the first few that were mono-shock I think they are all the same.
