It has been recommended to add something like 5oz of acetone to a full tank of fuel as a cleaner/power booster. I've tried it, but didn't notice any benefit myself.

I run acetone in my gas all the time - 1 oz to five gallons. I wouldn't use nail polish remover - too expensive. You can get a whole quart of acetone at the hardware store for around $7. Here's a link to the science.
