The 4-ways and Signals are on two different circuits, the changing from the 2prong back to the stock flasher shouldn't effect the 4-way circuit in any way, in fact it should work with no flasher at all, it has its own on the other side of the bike.

Glad you've got it working - if cleaning up that socket doesn't help I'd start looking at the ground. They are supposed to ground through the stalks so lots of opportunity for corrosion and PO modifications.

PS if your socket turns out to be too bad to salvage you can get new ones at most auto-parts stores for a couple bucks.

      the lights are on...

Help me out here. By 4-ways you mean the emergency flashers? Where exactly is that connector located? You mean the switch at the bars?
I swapped out the stock flasher unit under the right side cover with a 2-prong, because the old one was cooked. The only other flasher I have seen is under the seat, next to the cancelling unit.
I think I'm almost home, but don't want to overlook possible behind biters.
      Thanks for staying with this.

yup, 4 ways = emergency flashers = hazard flashers, its a slider switch on the bottom of the left side controls. When its on all four lights should blink, with the key on, and also with the key off. The flasher unit for the hazards/emergence/4-ways is the one you've seen under the seat, its a standard 2 prong flasher.

          the lights are on...

          That's a rog, reefer. I should've deduced that.
That slider seems to be working fine, but I'll perform the maintenance after I'm inspected. It sounds inevitable, as you said.
So what's the flasher unit under the right cover for-the signals? I've only got a Clymers book, and it's a little unclear.
I'm tackling the left rear this morning. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks.

ALL the lights are on...and blinking

Success gentlemen!! The bogus light socket was renewed and my bike is inspected and on the road. Took a nice 75 mile shake down run, and I'm in business.
Of course, this is square A, and I'm sure we'll be talking again. Still have to configure a horn button(I got passed w/ a bulb), and you know how the rest goes. Have to go thru the annals of the tech discussion for conversions to running/turn/brake light set-ups, etc.
Hey, no BS. I want to thank each one of you who responded to my questions and dilemmas.
I believe in helping others too, and it's a pleasure to find such a large group that shares the sentiment.
Fair skies and smooth roads to you all. Thanks again.
