does any body know if all the xs 1100 take the same fork tubes

  • #2
Definitley the wrong section of the forum for this question, but the answer is that they do not all take the same fork tubes. The mounts for the calipers are different for some, and there is the difference for air shocks on the later model Specials. You can cross-reference parts between the years/models with the info on benefiscal.co.uk. Lots of info there, with pictures for most XS11 parts.
    1980 XS850SG - Sold

Fully Vetterized and Dynojet Kit added, Heated Grips, Truck-Lite LED headlight, Accel Coils, Irridium plugs, TKAT Fork Brace, XS850LH Final Drive & Black SS Brake lines from Chacal.
Here's my web page devoted to my bike! XS/XJ User's Manuals there, and the XJ1100 Service Manual and both XS1100 Service manuals (free download!).

Apparently there's internal differences between the special and the standard that prevents swapping parts (I asked this question). So you can use any standard fork tube on any standard, and any special tube on any special, but no mixing.

I've tried swapping the parts between the two, they'll fit, but they don't slide very well. Another member on here, can't remember who, has adapted Special tubes into Standard lowers.
