Wouldnt your DMV have that info based on the serial numbers? Not sure how it works in your neck of the woods but over here our LTSA (Land Transport Safety Authority) maintains a motor vehicle register which is a complete history of previous and current owners. The only problem here is our privacy laws, Unless a PO gives his/her permission then LTSA cant release names, only dates and place sold. The can release the name of the original seller if it was a dealer or a company name, but not that of a private individual.

Doesnt help me though, mine was originally sold in the US and imported here when it was 5. The PO before me threw it away on a corner and wiped out the front, hence the 79 front end and metric speedo.

Same privacy laws apply here in NY but, the DMV does not hold the owner records of any registered vehical for longer than 10 years (less for bikes and trailers) if inactive. So if either the title or registration has no activity for that amount of time it is "purged" (removed) from their record. AFAIK the record only lists the registered/titled owner, not the entire history anyways. Dont ask me how I know this stuff.

I saw a crashed Midnight in the junk yard with a name plate. It gave me the willies.

Up here in Ontario Canada you can get a used vehicle package. Not a neccsesity for an old bike but the the p.o. for my bike did. It states all the previous owners & dates. It had around 7 names on it b4 i got it. Most of the buyers never had it more than a summer. The 1st & the last buyer I got it from were the longest owners. I don't get the one summer thing - I plan on never selling it - but hey thats just me - Dan
