Ok, I sometimes tear down faster than I should. Then I don't remember little details like this. This 'O-ring', which isn't an o-ring at all, rather it's a lipped seal. Lip in or lip out?

Stupid move #33 - Petcock Lever

I put mine together lip out, lip in I couldn't get it to slide into the darn petcock body. Doesn't mean its right, but my petcocks don't leak so it works....
Is that the lever out of a "standard" petcock? If it is good job filling the crescent hole....cant' even tell where it used to be.Last edited by psycoreefer; 03-31-2010, 05:05 PM.1979 xs1100 Special -

yep, seemed to me that it would seal better lip in, but it seems impossible to do! Yes, that is a standard lever with the solder mod. Used a special solder for aluminum and cast zinc / alloys. Now i have an "OFF" where the "PRIME" used to be and no more vacuum diaphram horrors. BUT, I will also have fuel pouring out if I tip over . Guess I'd better not tip over

Did you knock it out after you filled it then JB-weld it back in? Or is that good solder going to be one with the lever forever?'79 XS11 F

Like anytime you solder, the work must be clean. And, since it's a special solder, it has a special flux.
Here's a link to the one i bought:

Randy,
The lip on a seal always faces the liquid , gas or what ever it is to seal off. They will sometimes work for a long while if in backward and there is not much pressure, but if there is much pressure build up they usually leak sooner than later.POTTS CREEK EXPRESS
