ok guys, quick update. Found out 2 weeks ago I am going to be a new dad, first time! really excited, not sure anyone cares, lol, but hey, im excited. on the bike, beings money is now tight, i'm sticking with the stock/custom idea, im going to do a cafe racer instead, cannot afford the rest of the hayabusa front end, so, the parts i have will go, i'll build a tail section out of some sheet metal, throw some shocks on there and get it rolling. I got the motor back in and carbs sync'd up, but it spits through the carbs a little upon start up, and theres a weird backfire gurrgaling <--spl? anyways, sound from the exhaust. any ideas? thanks guys!

First of all, from one father to another, CONGRATS!!!! Nothing is as incredible as going through that process. It is crazy, and trying, and the most rewarding experience of your life.

Now, as to the bike, sounds like your carbs are flooding over, like the floats are not sealing off. If it floods the cylinders, you can get alot of fuel sitting in the pipes. One time working on a fellow XSives bike, the exhaust was so full of fuel form this that it smoked and blew black colored liquid out of the exhaust pipes that smelled like fuel.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.

can you adjust the float? i have pod filters on it, and the last time i took them off, there was a small amount of fuel in each rubber piece of the filter, where it slides onto the carbs. it was very minimal, one paper towel, EVEN OFF BRAND could be torn into 1/4 and get it all out. oh, one more thing, what xs has the tank with the side indents? and will it work on my sg, that'd look really cool with the cafe deal. thanks again. I appreciate the father comment, im way excited

          Congratulations, Dad! Okay, now breathe....

          Yes the floats are adjustable

The tanks with the the 'dents' in them are from the Standard models.

Yes a Standard model tank will fit on Special. The Standard tanks hold more fuel so they are slightly larger than the Special tanks. You're modifying the seat to make a cafe racer so it would be simple to fit the seat to the larger tank.

Gurgling and fuel in the pod filters is a little difficult to pin down because there are a lot of things that could be, like:
          Carburetors out of sync
Idle mixture screws not set correctly
Carburetor floats floats not set to the correct height
          Float needles/seats leaking
          Bad ignition connections
          Intake valve(s) too tight
          Broken pickup coil wires.
There are more but it's fairly long list and I'm sure you get the idea.

          Again -- Congratulations!
          -- Scott

well, IT'S ALIVE! got it to actually run pretty dang good yesterday! carbs are sync'd, 125# in all 4, 45 pilots, she runs like a hellion. got some fine tuning to do, and that other little thing...a title. pain in my arse. got a running bike, ready to roll, with no title yet. but, hopefully i'll get to actually put a few miles on it before it snows. probably have a good month and a half left of ridable weather. i actually ran it about half a mile to check everything out, kept missing 2nd gear, and 3rd, but i think its just the clutch lever needing adjustment

Hi apg and congratulations on the impending fatherhood.
Here's a photo of the Standard tank on my SG

Definately not a cafe racer but imagine the sidecar not being there and mentally add rearsets, eurobars and a bumstop seat. OK, you don't have to paint it orange.

                    Hi apg,
it's not harder. It IS a totally different technique. If you have ridden a quad or a snowmobile it's like that except it's lopsided.
Hit the search button and type in "sidecar attachment" to get to my "Why I ride a sidecar rig" string which goes into the sidecarring thing in some detail. T.C. said he was going to edit the string and put it into the Modifications forum but he ain't got a round tuit yet.
