Well, i've had this thing for about 8 months now, bought it for $100 in North Carolina right before i got out of the marine corps, now she's home with me in Omaha, Nebraska and has been sitting in my dads garage since august. BUT, she's getting a make over as we speak. I bought a 58' HD Sportster tank, which im going to stretch to match the length of the stock tank, hard tail, and 04' Hayabusa front fork setup. I'll keep everyone updated with progress and pictures. any imput you guys have from your experience would be great. Thanks to all for this amazing community! Pics coming soon!

this is a guess, but I suspect the hybusa front end is for looks, nice big thick USD forks, and a wider tire. Not for handling.1979 xs1100 Special -

the busa fork swap is purely for style. I live in Omaha, NE where honestly, i think i've seen one xs. so, by putting together my own style of bike, well, it shows my personality, i love the stock xs, its a very neat bike, but, im 23, and love making something my own. To you guys that have stock xs' or xj's, cudos, to those that maybe have a little modin' goin on, cudos. I know hardtail + busa forks = crappy handling and great handling which cancel eachother out, but it for looks only. Another mod i've been thinking about is the Microsquirt fuel injection system, reason being, why not? i know everyone has their opinion about FI vs Carbs, but my reason is, its different. I'll post progress pics, and keep everyone updated. I've been trying to reach xschop for the bearing, but no luck yet, so the front end might have to wait. Thanks to all for the input so far! you guys are a great community. By the way, anyone around Omaha, NE? just wondering if i was a lone gunner here!

It also stabilizes the forks, and keeps them alligned. Even WITH the fender, many people have added a fork brace to help with that.
Is it the Venturer tank, or the Standard tank? Either way, I'm sure there are plenty of folks who would be interested in swapping with you. Most people WANT the larger tank!

I think you've done a great job bobbing that bike. It has a cleaner looking back end than most I've seen. I also like to have a different look, and could never much appreciate the look of those great big caboose seats and tail light as big as a basket ball court. I didn't even think the stock seat was comfortable, in one hour my azz was hurting, they're too sqishy so it cut off the circulation to my legs like sitting on a toilet too long. So I switched it to a different fender and made my own seat. The seats ugly but it's my first, I'm gonna start on a new one this weekend.
I'm old enough that comfort is important. I like to take care of my lower back, and frequently twist the throttle so handling is important. Having rear springs is really a safety thing as well. If you plan to twist the throttle like the bike is built for, then I hope you put those rear shocks back on. Besides, I think your bike would look better with some shiny chrome springs to break up the coloring and add some contrast. It almost looks like someone bolted on some solid tubes where the shocks should be. Just my thoughts, but like I said, I love the work you've done."The Hooligan" XJ1100, Virago Gauge Pods, Screaming Eagle Mufflers, K&N Filter, hand made rear fender, side covers, and solo seat, round bar conversion, small headlight, tail light, and cat eye turn signals, chip fuses, rewired the right way.

You still have the standard tank?Healthy is merely the slowest rate at which you can die
Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better. I’ve always believed this, in spite of the trouble it’s caused me. Being shot out of a cannon will always be better than being squeezed out of a tube. That is why God made fast motorcycles, Bubba….Hunter S. Thompson

i got plans for tonight, but real quick; I've still got that tank, im not sure if you were asking me the question, but the one on the bike will be for sale as of...NOW, and the rear shock things, I actually cannot stand chrome, dont know why, just my personal thing, i actually hate it...lol, sorry to all you chrome lovers. but the rear thing holding the bike up right now is actually the rear piece of the frame i hacked off, just to hold it up there for now, and i really like the hard tail look, so, no shocks for me, im sure there are some guys who would like to blow up my thread about why its important to have them for your back and traction and all that, but please, i dont mind opinions, but please dont make it a flame thread. i've drawn up plans to put a single back bone in place of the double for the sportster tank and work from there to the tail, so. i'll get picks up soon! thanks again guys.1980 Yamaha XS 1100 SG

FYI, chrome hides under paint real easy. Use the hi-temp stuff for the exhaust. If your shocks are OK & for sale, what kinda price you got in mind? My shocks keep bouncing way after the bike has hit the pothole.
Going to a single spine needs as fat a pipe as will fit in the tank tunnel to keep the frame stiffness.Fred Hill, S'toon
