NIC Industries has a line of ceramic that comes in bold red, yellow, blue and purple as well as black, silver and various shades of brown and green, which can withstand approximately 1200 to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. NIC has a formulation called Chromex that is similar to chrome and withstands about 1300-degrees Fahrenheit. Chromex becomes more shiny as you work it. Using a Scotch Brite pad or a vibrahone, you can attain a high level of glossiness.

not sure if the 1200F or so paints are ceramic? My ceramic is 2000F and it is all satin but I know there has been a increase in high temp paint colors and availability. I have been very keen on finding a gloss black high temp but have not seen any to date.

My XS650 has headers that look like that often and a cover full of holes! My pipes are chrome and MEK takes the poop right off.

And the winner is....

Propane torch! Not that I have tried it, but today got the owner on the phone and he said fanning it with a propane torch and wiping it off could work, hopefully it will get soft enough...

I asked him about MEK, and he doubted it would knock it off....but if the torch won't work then anything is worth a shot...because otherwise he said we would just have to redo it... (maybe he will do it cheaper this time...

Actually i will probably just leave it, to remind myself to pay attention...

THe picture is a little forgiving, but I got most of it off with the propane torch as you can see. A few little spots remain, a little more so on the other far pipe...but perhaps a week or two later I will try again....

Now I just need a little aluminum polish!

Nice, depoopified. Caution on using polishes on headers, it will leave a deposit behind and possibly turn the pipe gold, DAMHIK. The blue away stuff designed especially for headers would probably be safe tho.

If thats Chromex then just use a scotchbrite to polish it. It'll take time but then all things worth while take time.

I may try the scotchbrite, but Chris the owner of the place repeatedly said a good aluminum polish will shine it right up...

but as everyone points out, there is probably 25 different things that will shine these things!
