Broken idle mixture screws!!! HELP

3 of my 4 have broken tips. I have tried the pick and needle methods posted in the repair tech tips. These buggers just do not want to come out.

Any other suggestions?

Also, where is the best place to get replacements?

Some of these guys have had luck by putting the carb bank in the freezer. Search for carbs in the freezer, lol. I've ordered those early type mixture screws from Bike Bandit$ before, but they are probably available somewhere else cheaper.

Ignore the pliers, was an idea that I never got around to finishing

BUT, note the little goodie in the lower right of pic.
I ground down a FUBARed tap, so the pointy part was just a tad smaller diameter than pilot screw tip. Nice hardened steel

Placed in a vise grip, then held positioned in the carb, takes but a single tap on the pliers with a wrench to pop out stuck pins. Has worked when all other ideas failed.

The last time I worked on a bike with that problem, I was able to push the broken end out with the smooth rounded end of a ratchet. After it was no longer protruding, it fell right out.

In the past I have had to use a new 1/16" drill bit and very carefully go at it from the threaded side. I was not trying to drill thru, but just remove a bulk of the material until it was weak enough to be able punch it thru with a small safety pin. Careful not to hit the threads or go to deep.

Yeah that sucks, what I did was fill up the holes with pb blaster stuck the whole rack of carbs in the freezer for like 5 hours pulled them out and used a 90 degree mechanics pick and a big box end to apply some leverage and they popped. Right out be real easy you don't want to gouge out the holes

Tried everything but the freezer trick and mro's custom drift
(did not think of either of those, alas)
Ended up drilling the busted end out in the pillar drill using a 1/16" drill bit. A 1mm (0.040") drill bit is perfect but I didn't have one and the drill's chuck don't like to grip anything that small anyway.
Worked great after, just didn't have to open it as far as the others.

Holy sheet! Nothing has worked. Next comes the drill. Is pillar drill a Canadian term? I have never heard that name for a drill press.

If the hole in the carb throat does get a little buggered up when your drilling, don't sweat it, it will still work. The idle adjustment will just be a bit more sensitive. Three out of four holes on my Special's carbs are slightly enlarged and the mixture screw tip sticks down into the throat a bit, but it runs fine. YMMV

Sorry, it's my Brit accent. In American it's a drill press that has a long enough pillar that it sits on the floor.
Do NOT try drilling the busted needle tip out with a hand-held power drill.
NOBODY has wrists that are accurate enough.

For drilled out idle mix holes, maybe drill it out a little and replace with a conical plug with a stock size hole, any ideas out there
