  • Turn Signal???

Hello new to the forum and I have just picked up a 1978 XS11 and the turn signals are on all the time but do not flash. Any tips or suggestions ?

    Correct wattage

Ensure that you have the correct wattage lamps in the turn signals. I think the correct lamps are 12 volt 27 watt if my memory serves me correctly. If the wrong wattage lamp is utilized, the flasher will not work. Also, check switches and grounds. I hope this helps.

turn signals are on all the time
If this means all 4 turns are lit, most likely a wiring problem. The handle bar turn switch should be able to engage only one side or the other, not both.
BUT it only takes a few minuets to open the control and have a look inside. Pretty simple switch.

Sounds like you may have some multi-meter testing to find the problem if it's not an obvious snafu. Do you have a wiring diagram?

Just not flashing is generally caused by "dirty" wire connectors/grounds and sometimes by a bad flasher. Every "new" XS I've had I spent a few hours just cleaning the wire connectors and fuse box. Saves time later if a problem should occur.
